Audiobook Review: Little Wing: Who Am I? Where Am I? What Am I?

Little Wing – Who am I? Where am I? What am I? by Jake Taylor   (Children’s Fiction)

Narration:

Anjna Patel is the perfect narrator for this story.  She doesn’t have a male voice, per se, but she reads this story with all the animation and enthusiasm with which a mother or big sister would read a story to a child. I especially liked the way she captures the attitude of Little Wing in the tone and inflections in which she reads his dialogue. She truly endears him to children. All of her character projections are just entertaining to listen to.

Book Review:  Little Wing – Who am I? Where am I? What am I?

A baby insect is born, and by an unusual circumstance, finds himself all alone in the world and looking for the answers to the three questions in the title of this book. The author has done such a wonderful job with Little Wing’s adventure as well as with the interesting characters he meets on his quest.  Not all of these characters have the little insect’s best interest at heart, but none of them are frightening. Rather, they are quite humorously portrayed.  Each character has its unique personality, which I think is a plus because children can easily identify with and pick their favorites.

I am not entirely sure what age group the book is for. Up until the ending of it, it seems like children from ages four to six can easily absorb the lessons being taught in it. Near the very end of the book, there are lessons presented which may have to be shared with children between those young ages, when they are older, say between eight and ten.

Little Wing’s journey is the kind that should be a cartoon for children to enjoy.  While this book is not Whisper-synced, I’ve provided image links to both the e-book and the audiobook. I highly recommend getting both books, so you and your child or children can experience all the color and wonder and illustrations in this story along with Patel’s wonderful narration.
