Audiobook Review: Pibbin the Small

by admin on April 2, 2015

Pibbin the Small by Gloria Repp (Children’s Fiction)

Narration:

Jon Repp does a wonderful job with the narration of this book. I’ve listened to the audio twice. Through his performances, readers experience not only the dialog but the very character and density, as it were, of each animal. From the booming voice of Carpenter to the cautious one of Corey to the weighty timbre of a woodchuck: it’s all present in his narration. Most importantly, his voice for Pibbin sounds like that of a young frog as opposed to that of an adult trying to sound like a young frog or one not making any effort to sound childlike at all. There is little doubt that children will find Jon’s dialogue-interpretations animated and engaging.

Book Review: Pibbin the Small

Pibbin is the kind of character that should be made into a stuffed animal that children can keep by their sides. The tree frog has a big heart and a strong sense of responsibility. I look forward to reading some tales in which his good side will be tested more. Pibbin and Leeper set out on an important mission that will help another animal living in Friendship Bog. Along the way, the two friends encounter a wide variety of adventures and twists and turns that are surprisingly unexpected but that make this book so entertaining for children and for adults, like me, who enjoy children’s stories in which the characters have depth to them. I recommend this book to children of all ages. It’s a great escape from serious adult fiction into an adventure filled with a host of wonderful characters and new things about which to learn. Parents and grandparents in search of a book that will teach children the importance of helping others will want to acquire Pibbin the Small. The book is available as a paperback, e-book and audiobook. The audiobook is great, but be sure to get either the printed copy or the e-book so you can enjoy the illustrations. It’s very easy to acquire both the e-book and the audiobook at a good price. Just purchase the e-book and then get the audiobook at the Whispersync price of only $1.99.
